at work yesterday the question arose, “would you quit your job if you were offered a million dollars?”. a great question that i thought would inspire a solid dialogue but most said no and that a million dollars isn’t much money nowadays.

i answered quickly and honestly, “i’d do it in a heartbeat”. i’ve never given it much thought but the way i see it, i could pay off where i live, the rest of my car, my phone, and whatever bills i had for the next few years. then, i could travel the world. that’s really all i want. i don’t need or even want to buy anything extravagant. i’d buy a plane ticket, a bag to hold two weeks worth of clothes and i’d leave the country for awhile. i’d use airbnb, couch surfing, and hostels to lay my head at night and trains, planes, and my own two feet to travel amonst the cities i’ve heard so much about. i’d travel first to amsterdam, then belgium, and then paris, ireland, athens, london, rome, sydney, and where ever next comes to mind after. i know for a fact i could travel around the world a few times over, experiencing new cultures, food, sights, and ways of life and not spend even close to half the money.

i guess i don’t think in terms of having that much money as squandering it. i’d use every dollar to move forward as a person. i’d share it, make something with it, i’d experience new endeavors with it, and i’d not focus on what i could acquire with it in the monetary sense.
